Restoration of a 1984 280i "Barn Find" - Part 3
<< part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4 - part 5 >>
September 24, 2007:
Progress has been somewhat slow since the 1984 280i went to the shop to have the mechanical work started. However, recently, the engine was fired up for the first time and it runs strong and sounds good. However, there is some play in the water pump so a new one will be installed to replace the old one.
Surprisingly enough, the nasty looking exhaust did not sound all that bad when the engine was running, which was surprising, considering the look of it.
Next, they will replace the clutch master and slave cylinders so they can actually drive the car to determine how the rest of the drivetrain is and what else, if anything, will need to be done.
Also, all of the existing hoses will be replaced with silicone hoses and all fluids will be drained and replaced.
With the next update, hopefully we'll be well into the list of mechanical work and it'll be nearing the point where it will go to the exhaust shop.
Stay tuned!
